Mystery as two teenagers, both 16, found dead with gunshot wounds hours after vanishing

Two 16-year-olds reported missing in Alaska have been found dead.

The Juneau Police Department said the bodies of Leotis Phillips and Zoey Clark were found in a wooded area above Glacier Highway in Alaska on Monday afternoon (31 August).

The bodies were discovered above the 6800 block at around 2:25pm, just hours after they were reported missing in the morning.

At around 5:52am, Phillips was reported missing from his home on Kanata Street, then at 8:49am, Clark was reported missing from her residence on Teal Street.

Police believe Leotis and Zoey were ‘together and may be in possession of a firearm’.

“Preliminary information indicates that both juveniles died from gunshot wounds. A firearm was located at the scene. Their bodies will be sent to the Alaska State Medical Examiner’s Office in Anchorage for autopsy,” officers added in a release.

“Next of kin has been notified. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional information is available at this time.

“The Juneau School District plans to make support and counseling services available to students and staff affected by this tragedy.

“The Juneau Police Department extends its condolences to the families, friends, classmates, and others affected by this loss.”

In an earlier post, police said Leotis has been ‘described as an Alaska Native male, approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing between 140 and 160 pounds’.

“He has long black hair, which he usually wears in a ponytail, and brown eyes. Leotis typically wears a purple bandana around his neck, a black hooded sweatshirt, and brown pants,” officers said.

“Zoey is described as a white female, approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing about 140 pounds.”
