Lindsay Clancy holdout juror reportedly believed she was guilty 'from day one'

The lone holdout juror in the Lindsay Clancy trial reportedly believed that she was guilty ‘from day one’ and has dismissed claims he had ‘reasonable doubt’.

Following weeks of testimony and almost 40 hours of deliberations, the judge officially declared a mistrial after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

It was later revealed that the mistrial was declared due to one holdout juror who did not agree with the other 11 that Clancy was not guilty due to reason of insanity.

The fallout from the case, lead Judge William Sullivan to seal the names of the jurors indefinitely, writing: “Based on the circumstances of this trial and the fact that the case continues to receive daily, divisive attention in Massachusetts and beyond, the Court concludes that there is a real and present ‘risk of [personal] harm to the jurors [and] to the integrity of their service’.”

However, it doesn’t prevent the jurors from identifying themselves and in recent days several have spoken to the media about what happened during deliberations.

Ray Marcel, from the Fugitive TV streaming series, revealed this week that he had spoken with the holdout juror - identified as 'Michael'.

Speaking to NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo about the interview, Marcel said that Michael told him he had never wavered when it came to believing Clancy was guilty.

“He felt that she was sane when she did it,” Marcel said.

“He said, from day one, that he always felt that she was guilty, and he never displayed or said anything about reasonable doubt.”

He reiterated those sentiments in a statement to NewsNation, saying: “I didn’t have any doubts. As I tried to explain different possible theories during deliberation, I kept getting cut off as if I had doubts based on the evidence present.

“Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses, and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she [Clancy] knew exactly what she was doing and planned.”

Michael’s comments to Marcel appear to be in stark contrast to some of the claims made by other jurors.

Jury foreperson Roni Carlson told NBC 10 Boston that the holdout juror had admitted he had ‘reasonable doubt’, but claimed that he refused to find Clancy not guilty and alleged that he would not engage with the rest of the jurors.

In his interview with Marcel, Michael appeared to dismiss this and reportedly said that there had been disagreements during deliberations.

“He said things got heated in the jury room,” Marcel said.

“Jurors were not agreeing, some agreeing, some not agreeing…. What he told me was, from day one, they voted every single day.”

Marcel has since reported that Michael has hired top lawyer Edward Andrew Paltzik, who has vowed to protect him from those who have publicly attacked the juror.

Speaking to TMZ, Paltzik also warned that there are no authorised fundraising pages for Michael - despite one page racking up more than $280,000.

The lawyer told the outlet that any pages claiming to raise money were ‘fake, unauthorized or scams’.
