Teacher placed on leave after student recorded him ‘urinating in front of class’

A teacher has been placed on leave after being caught 'urinating into a container', moments before students entered the classroom.

The footage, which was obtained by The Sacramento Bee, shows the male teacher stood at the front of the class, before unbuttoning his trousers.

He allegedly urinates into a container, just out of shot, and can be heard on the footage saying, 'gosh, that’s good — gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh gosh'.

It is believed he then pours away the urine, which can be heard in the background, before students begin entering the room.

According to The Sacramento Bee, the teacher has been identified by students as Dan Champ, who is a history teacher and Associated Student Body adviser at Granite Oaks Middle School in California.

Families received a message following the video being circulated that the employee had been placed on leave and an investigation was taking place.

“This afternoon, after school dismissal, a parent and a staff member informed the School Administration of a video showing an employee engaging in conduct inconsistent with our professional standards,” the email reads.

“While the unverified video does not involve any students or other staff, the employee has been placed on leave while Granite Oaks Middle School and the Rocklin Unified School District (RUSD) investigate the incident.

“Although we are unable to share specific details, this matter is being taken seriously and will be addressed in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and legal requirements.”

One student, who did not want to be named, told The Bee: “It personally makes me feel disgusted knowing that I was in the room prior to him doing that near the spot that I used to sit."

It's not clear who recorded the teacher or why the footage was taken at that particular time.

So far, parent reaction to the footage has been varied, with some wondering if teachers should be getting more breaks, while others were less sympathetic.

One wrote: “I saw the video. It was really weird and there was enough time for him to go to the restroom. Per the children, this is a regular occurrence.

“My daughter's friend who is a junior remembers being in his class and it always smelling weird.”

Another said: “Although this is highly concerning, why are students secretly filming a teacher alone in their classroom? That to me is also disturbing.”
