American citizens have been warned over the alleged ‘human safaris’ that are said to have occurred in the early 90s.

It’s been reported that ‘sniper tourists’ used the civil war in Bosnia to engage in horrific acts and were paid to do so.

Italian prosecutors are investigating these alleged cases of rich people forking out tens of thousands to be taken to the mountains outside of the Balkan nation’s capital, Sarajevo, while it was under siege.

More than 11,000 people died during those brutal four years, with allegations of ‘human hunters’ from abroad having been made several times over the years since.

And now, a US Congresswoman has announced that she has opened an investigation into the claims, warning Americans of potential consequences if they are found to have allegedly taken part.

‘Sniper tourists’ on ‘human safaris’

Journalist and novelist Ezio Gavazzeni filed the complaint in Milan, describing a ‘manhunt’ by ‘very wealthy people’.

Italians and others are alleged to have ‘paid to be able to kill defenceless civilians’ from Serb positions in the hills around Sarajevo.

According to some reports, the ‘tourists’ were charged different rates to kill men, women or children.

It’s said that Gavazzeni handed a 17-page file to prosecutors in February of his findings, including a report by the former Saravejo mayor, Benjamina Karic.

The author alleged to Italy’s La Repubblica that ‘at least a hundred’ took part in the practice.

While the public prosecutor’s office in Milan has opened an investigation into the claims, members of the British forces who served in Sarajevo told the BBC that they had never heard of any of this ‘sniper tourism’.

One soldier even described the allegation as an ‘urban myth’.

Warning to US citizens

Congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna took to X as she shared reports of these alleged ‘sniper tourists’ and issued a bit of a warning to Americans who might have engaged in the controversial acts.

“Regarding the alleged “murder tourism” discussed below, I have opened an investigation into this matter and am in contact with the Bosnian Consulate as well as the Italian Embassy,” she wrote yesterday (13 November).

“Paying money to shoot civilians—and even worse to shoot children—is a level of evil our country cannot and will not tolerate. Both the Italian and Bosnian governments will be sharing any and all information regarding any AMERICANS that may be implicated.”

Luna went on to add that if there are any Americans who have engaged in it, then ‘they deserve to be charged and prosecuted’.

The congresswoman added: “Taking murders off our streets is America First. Americans may have paid to travel to murder people for sport. Hence the investigation. That is OUR issue. Murder is murder.”
