Billionaire built £15 million 'sky mansion' on top of 400ft skyscraper but he may never get to live in it

A billionaire who built a £15 million mansion in the sky may never actually get to live in it.

If you had billions of pounds, you'd basically have your pick of where to build a home.

I mean, a nice exotic island would be great. Or somewhere on the coast? How about a penthouse in the city?

Well, none of these are what businessman Vijay Mallya had in mind. Instead, he built a mansion on top of the Kingfisher Towers in UB City, Bengaluru, India.

The mansion is empty.

The home covers 40,000 square feet, and is totally separate from the apartments residing in the building directly underneath.

It's worth an eye-watering $20 million, but in a savage twist, Mallya might not ever get to live in it.

This is because eight years ago, he fled India to move to the UK as he defaulted on debts of more than $1bn (£842m), and faced charges including fraud.

Last year, British Security Minister Tom Tugendhat was asked about the extradition of Mallya, to which he said the UK does not intend to become a place where people can evade justice.

Tugendhat told the Press Trust of India: "We both (the UK and India) have legal processes that must be gone through. But the UK government is absolutely clear, we have no intention of becoming a place where those who are seeking to evade justice can hide."

In the meantime, the mansion is sitting empty 400ft in the air.

People are often seen admiring the building, however, which has lush gardens and an infinity pool.

One person wrote on X: "What a stunning 20 million dollar mansion built atop Kingfisher Towers in Bengaluru, showcasing luxury living in India's bustling city."

While another said: "Wow, talk about living the high life! I guess the only way to go from here is UP... literally!"

And a third added: "What an architectural marvel! The fusion of luxury and innovation makes this mansion a true gem atop Kingfisher Towers in Bengaluru, India."

The billionaire may never get to live in it.

And a fourth said: "The construction of a $20 million mansion atop Kingfisher Towers in Bengaluru, India, is certainly an impressive feat of architecture and engineering.

"With breathtaking views and luxurious amenities, it's a testament to the opulence and grandeur that can be achieved in modern urban living. This iconic structure stands as a symbol of prestige and sophistication in the heart of Bengaluru's skyline."

It's rumoured that Mallya has never even stepped foot inside the mansion, so who knows which lucky bugger will actually end up actually living there!
