A cute little mouse was spotted munching on some cannabis leaves before being found lying flat out on his back.

A resident of New Brunswick in Canada, where growing a limited amount of cannabis is legal, said he caught the adorable thief nicking some leaves from his plants two days in a row.

The man shared photos of the mouse to his Facebook page, in which you could see the little fella nibbling away at the leaves.

And it seems as though the plant had quite an impact on the mouse, as a follow-up photo showed it lying down in some leaves, seemingly high as a kite.

After seeing the tiny mouse passed out, the man decided to scoop him up and keep an eye on him for a few days to ensure there were no ill-effects from his drug binge - six days later he was released back into the wild.

In a series of hilarious posts, which have since gone viral, the man wrote: "For two days in a row I've caught this little pot head taking leaves off of my plant and eating them until he passes out.

"He's missing an ear so it may be self-med for his PTSD but I still think it's time for an Intervention. I'll let him sleep this one off but when he wakes up, he's getting a real stern talking to."

In a follow up, he explained: "So it's been a couple of rough days for our little baked buddy here and despite a belly ache and a wicked bad case of the munchies I think he'll make a full recovery.

"He's been weaned to one medium leaf per day and seems to be adjusting well. One day at a time, my friend, one day at a time."

A final update read: "On the Rodent to Redemption! After a long and desperate battle with addiction this little mouse has grinded up his struggle, picked out the seeds and stems and is ready to roll out.

"Weed all benefit from jointing together to help the smoke clear in any addict's life. He did his very cannibest and was awarded his first 12 Step chip. I may have been the one to open his cage but he was the one who set himself free. So long my friend, till we meet again."

All's well that ends well, eh?
