Good Samaritans Come Together To Pull Away Car From Huge Sinkhole

A gang of good Samaritans got together to pull a car away from a sinkhole that had opened up behind it in China's Shaanxi Province.

It's almost like a moment from a tense action thriller (probably starring Dwayne Johnson), where the ground opens up beneath a car and threatens to swallow it as the passengers locked inside scream in terror until they're saved by The Rock himself:

See what we mean? It's almost like that, except - thankfully - there was nobody trapped inside this car when flash floods pushed it towards a sinkhole that had opened up on a street in Yan'an City in Shaanxi Province on August 11.

Dwayne Johnson wasn't present either, but as if to prove that all superheroes don't have muscles that size of double decker buses, a team of good Samaritans helped save the car by fixing two ropes to it and hauling it back from the edge of the hole.

Sure, The Rock could have done that with a piece of string tied around his little finger, but he wasn't there, so shut up about that already.

The crowd, numbering about 30, were able to drag the SUV back from teetering on the edge of inevitable destruction as the owner bravely got in the driver's seat and revs the engine before driving away from the hole and certain doom.

Footage shows the group forming two lines and shouting 'one, two, three' as they pull at two ropes attached to the chassis of the people carrier.

The incident is still under investigation, but local authorities said nobody was injured. It's believed the sinkhole was caused by heavy rains which washed away soil underground.

Just the other day in Howell County, Missouri, a farmer named Cody Wallace discovered two of his calves, who had been missing, had fallen into a sinkhole in a dried up pond that was about nine metres deep.

After realising he wouldn't be able to rescue to the two calves - who were about six weeks old - on his own, he called the fire department and they were thankfully able to rescue the pair of animals.

"I heard a faint bawling sound down there in the hole and when I looked down there it was both calves down there and I couldn't believe it," said Cody.

"I realized there's no way I can get them out by myself so we called the fire department and fortunately the Moody Volunteer Fire Department came out here and a kid named Joseph Lambert was brave enough to get lowered down in there."

Isn't it great when humans help each other - and animals - out? Yes, yes it is.
