Man Hospitalised After Smashing Through Glass Panel In Botched Birthday Stunt

Man Hospitalised After Smashing Through Glass Panel In Botched Birthday Stunt

Quite the way to celebrate your 30th

A man in Russia had a 30th birthday to remember - but not in a good way (see video below):

Dimitry Prigorodov, a banker from Moscow, rented a country cottage with some mates to celebrate the occasion. The cottage came with a pool, and after a few drinks, Dimitry's friend Cyril found the idea of jumping into it from the level above became all too tempting.

However, the graceful birthday dive he had envisaged did not come to pass. After doing a few rehearsals and preparing himself for the jump, Cyril ran forward and hurled himself through the void.

The pivotal problem though was that his feet clipped the top on his way through, messing up his trajectory and sending him chest/chin first into a glass panel at the edge of the pool, which smashed on impact.

Unsurprisingly, much like the glass panel, Cyril was badly damaged in the collision, sustaining torn ligaments and a bruised chest. He also had to undergo two operations on his hands and legs.

What is surprising though - given the aforementioned injuries - is that Cyril doesn't regret attempting the disastrous leap.

Dimitry said: "It wasn't for nothing. It was my birthday and I rented a cottage to celebrate.

"We were celebrating and drinking alcohol. It seemed to us that we could try and jump in principle, but not all went to plan.

"The result was sad, torn ligaments, the left leg does not work, the hand is the same. He's had two operations and had a badly bruised chest."

It wasn't all bad though, because the group managed to avoid a fine for the damage caused due to the contract being drafted incorrectly - and nothing says 'Happy 30th!' like an incorrectly drafted contract.

This was not the plan.

Earlier this year, three people tragically died in Moscow at an influencer's 29th birthday party.

Ekaterina Didenko, who has 1.7 million followers on Instagram, held a pool party to celebrate her 29th birthday.

But things took a turn for the worse when a reported 25kg (55lbs) of dry ice was dumped into the pool at the Devyaty Val (Ninth Wave) complex. The dry ice began to melt, flooding the room with carbon dioxide. Party-goers jumped into the pool excited by the 'smoky' effect but immediately began to choke and fall unconscious.

Tragically, Ekaterina's IT specialist husband, Valentin Didenko, was one of the three people who died.

The other two victims were Natalia Monakova and Yuri Alferov, both 25, who were confirmed dead at the scene.
