These days you have to be careful what you say and where you say it, because you never know who is watching and listening. Just have a look at what happened to this guy when he stopped by to see his father-in-law:

In a video shared to TikTok, a man going by the handle @corighteous can be seen walking up the steps to the house.

But it quickly becomes apparent that he really doesn't want to be there, as he explains to the person he's speaking to on his phone. Loud and clear.

He says: "Alright, well, yeah, I've just got to go and meet this d***head, so... "

Looking up as he approaches the door, the hapless son-in-law quickly realises that his partner's father has had a video doorbell installed, and so can hear and see everything.

Embarrassed and with his tail tucked firmly between his legs, the man darts to his right, walking away from the door.

Since the video was shared on TikTok, it has been viewed more than 2.4 million times, liked more than 167,000 times and received hundreds of comments, the majority of which have said the same thing: 'karma'.

One user wrote: "If regret was a video."

Echoing this, another chimed in: "I hope you just turned around and went home, because that was it for dad, I can promise you that."

A third joked: "Rumour that it, he's still walking to this day."

While another added: "Man, his soul legit left his body."

Not everyone thought it was so bad, though. Some even said their dad would have just laughed.

"My dad would honestly think this is hilarious," commented one.

Others took the opportunity to offer some advice on how the poor lad could have styled it out and avoided the embarrassment.

One user said: "He could have just played it off by adding, 'After I leave here.'"

If only he'd been a little quicker at thinking on his feet, eh?

But really there's only one thing we want to know now - what did the dad say?

We need a part two.
