The parents of the two-year-old little boy who was dragged into a lagoon by an alligator and killed have broken their silence.

Matt and Melissa Graves released a statement through the police and said they were "devastated" by the loss of their son.

Lane Graves was pulled into the Seven Seas Lagoon at the Grand Floridian Resort. His body was later found 'intact' after a 17-hour search.

They said: "Words cannot describe the shock and grief our family is experiencing over the loss of our son. We are devastated and ask for privacy during this extremely difficult time.

"To all of the local authorities and staff who worked tirelessly these past 24 hours, we express our deepest gratitude.

According to the Times, Lawyer Matt Morgan told the family that they could receive a pay-out of millions from Disney.

He said: "Every parent across America has had this family's nightmare running through their minds and it's heart-breaking to think that this may have been a preventable tragedy."

Disney has now pledged to erect warning signs about alligators in the lagoon.

Morgan added: "It's common sense that if alligators are fed on a continuing basis that they will return. If evidence supports that Disney were aware people were feeding them and didn't erect a fence or warn of the potential of alligators to come on to the beach, that's going to be a factor."

It's all very sad.
