Tourist Risks Her Life For Instagram Shot Atop 3,000ft Brazilian Cliff

If you don't like heights, this maybe isn't for you...

A tourist in Brazil has risked her life to get the perfect Instagram photograph by positioning herself perilously close to a 3,000-foot drop off a rocky cliff face. Seriously, it's not for the faint-hearted. If you've got a fear of heights, this video will not help that.

The anonymous woman was filmed after making the two-and-a-half-hour trek up Pedra da Gávea mountain near to Rio de Janeiro. But what is the point of going to the famed beauty spot if you're not going to tell your legions of slavish social media followers about it?

Well, quite.

So, the woman shuffled herself right to the edge of the rocky outcrop so that she could be pictured.

Then, once everyone could be totally sure that she was right on the precipice, she raised her two arms in triumph.

It's a lovely spot, to be fair. From the top of the cliff you can see out across the whole city, as well as the azure blue of the South Atlantic Ocean.

Thousands of feet away below, the famous Copacabana beach stretches away as a thin ribbon of pristine white sand.

There are probably ways in which she could have achieved the shot without putting her own life - and, presumably the lives of anyone below - in immediate danger.

Luckily, no harm came of it, and the woman is fine.

In fact, the short clip has been like 114,000 times on social media since it was shared. It hasn't stopped people criticising the woman for her actions, though.

Hey, it's the internet, after all.

One person commented: "Really. Even if they don't die and get that 'cool shot', I still find the picture lame because they clearly risked their life (and possibly the lives of others on the ground below) to get it.

"It's not worth it and the picture just makes me think that you're a vain idiot."

Another (slightly OTT) comment reads: "Was anyone else kinda really hoping that she accidentally slid off? I mean that would have been hilarious."

Obviously, this particular photo spot is a popular one, but it's not always people getting themselves into danger. Sometimes they manage to cleverly side-step actually putting themselves in harm's way.

Bodybuilder Luis Fernando Candela shared a photograph of himself at the same place hanging upside down by only his feet.

However, despite calling it his 'most dangerous stunt yet', it subsequently transpired that he'd just cropped out the grass inches beneath him.
