Woman wins £269,000 on way home from collecting £90,000 lottery win

She has described the day as 'absolute insanity', which seems fair enough

A woman in the US must be feeling paranoid that something is gonna go wrong soon after she won the lottery - twice.

The 70-year-old - who wished to remain anonymous - was naturally buzzing to discover she was a $100,000 (£89,656) winner after scratching two $100k 'Ultimate Cash' instant game tickets she purchased from Speedy Gas in Newark, Delaware.

She went to collect her winnings about a week later (Lord knows why she waited a week), and she told lottery officials it was her biggest win since she started playing the Delaware Lottery seven years ago.

However, her record win was soon to be dwarfed.

On her drive home, the lucky lady decided to pick up three 'Serious Money' tickets from Tiger Mart in Dover, and lo and behold, one of the tickets turned out to be a $300,000 (£268,911) jackpot winner.

She may well be knocking back a few of these.

"My best friend was the first person I told about winning the $100,000 top prize, and she came with me to claim it," the woman said.

"When I scratched the $300,000 winning Serious Money ticket later in the day, we just sat there in disbelief.

"It was absolute insanity."

You can say that again.

The only downside was she then had to head back to the lottery headquarters to pick up her second prize of the day, bringing her earnings on 20 October to $400,000 (£358,488).

Now, please quit while you're ahead anonymous lucky lady... unless, maybe third time's a charm?

Helene Keeley, acting director of the Delaware Lottery, said: "Congratulations to this lucky player on her unique double win.

"It's great to see our players bring home six-figure prizes, and instant games continue to surprise and delight players throughout the state."

As for what the woman plans to do with her winnings, she said she will be putting most of the prize money into her retirement fund - which seems a little bit of a dull end result from such a dramatic double win.

Asked if there was anything else she wanted to share about her win, she said: "Just that I love scratching instant game tickets!"

Pretty obvious really, given that she celebrated winning $100,000 by buying more lottery tickets.

So keep your chin up guys if you're feeling envious of the double lottery winner - for all we know she still may not have broken even yet.
