Further details have emerged after a man was 'sucked into' an aeroplane jet engine and killed at Milan's Bergamo airport.
Earlier today (8 July) flights to and from the northern Italian airport were suspended after a person on entered the runway was pulled into the engine of an aircraft preparing to depart.
The incident was confirmed by the airport on social media, with a spokesperson saying: "SACBO announces that flight operations at Milan Bergamo Airport were suspended at 10:20 am due to a problem that occurred on the taxiway. The causes of the problem are currently being investigated by the authorities."
Further details about the devastating incident have since emerged, with a report from Italian outlet Bergamonews, citing airport sources, saying the man was not a passenger or a member or airport staff.

It's understood the man had abandoned his car outside the terminal after driving the wrong way around a roundabout.

He then ran inside the airport and was able to get onto the runway, despite being chased by police officers.
The flight involved was an Airbus A319, operated by the Spanish budget airline Volotea, bound for Austurias, Spain. It had been moving for less than two minutes before tragedy struck.
According to Sacbo, which is in charge of running Bergamo airport, the incident occurred at 9.20 am UK time, with flights later being resumed at 12 pm local time (11 am UK time).
