Australia's bad boy of tennis Nick Kyrgios has been served with legal claims over some alleged nasty behaviour off the court.

The tennis star has been summoned to face a Canberra court after allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend Chiara Passari in late 2021.

The Canberra Times revealed the current world number 40 player is due to appear in court next month.

"ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates Court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021,"a police spokesman said, as per The Canberra Times.

The charge carries a maximum jail sentence of two years.

The Canberra Times reports that the charge relates to an allegation that the tennis bad boy grabbed ex-partner Passari.

Barrister Jason Moffett confirmed to the paper that he had been briefed in the matter. He also revealed that Kyrgios is aware of the charges levied against him.

"It's in the context of a domestic relationship," Moffett told The Canberra Times.

"The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously."

Moffett added: "Given the matter is before the court ... he doesn't have a comment at this stage, but in the fullness of time we'll issue a media release."

After the allegations against him surfaced, lawyers for the tennis star slammed reports that the star had been formally charged.

They claimed the reports were 'inaccurate', and that Kyrgios had only been given a 'formal direction to appear to face allegations', according to reports by the Daily Mail.

Kyrgios is currently in the UK playing at Wimbledon.

The Australian star made it through to his first major quarter-final against Cristian Garin in seven years yesterday (5 July).

Kyrgios managed to nick a five set victory against the rising US star Brandon Nakashima, beating him 6-4, 4-6, 6-7, 6-3, 2-6 on Wimbledon's centre court.

However, while many were impressed with his performance, it was his clothing that had people talking.

The 27-year-old has taken to wearing a pair of bright red Air Jordans and a red baseball cap to and from the court - which goes against the tournament's rules.

Famously, Wimbledon requires all players to wear all white clothing when on the court.

And when he was asked about this during the post-match press conference, Kyrgios didn't seem too fussed by the rules at all, saying he 'does what he wants'.
