Coronavirus Medic In China Pours Out Buckets Of Sweat From Her Hazmat Suit

Coronavirus Medic In China Pours Out Buckets Of Sweat From Her Hazmat Suit

Next time you think about complaining about the heat, spare a thought for this medical worker in China. Viral footage shows her lifting up her trouser legs after removing what look like plastic bags from her feet - only for literal buckets of sweat to pour out from inside.

That just looks incredibly uncomfortable, doesn't it? Can you imagine working in such heat, wearing a hazmat suit. Makes wearing a little cloth mask seem positively joyful, right?

The video footage was reportedly filmed in Urumqi, the regional capital of Xinjiang in north-western China, on Saturday (8 August), when the health worker was taking a break during her shift. Yes, that's right. She hasn't even finished the shift, which means she has to go back to work having just poured puddles of sweat onto the floor.

The average temperature in Urumqi that day was a scorching 29°C.

Unsurprisingly, the clip has gone viral, and millions of web users in China have been hailing the woman in the clip as a hero.

The clip was shared by the People's Daily, the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party, who wrote: "On 8 August, Urumqi, Xinjiang, medical staff took a break from epidemic prevention. When the medical worker lifted her trousers, sweat poured out from inside.

Xinjiang has been at the centre of a local coronavirus crisis that has seen more than 500 people there be infected since mid-July. In an attempt to stop the spread and stamp out the infection cluster, local authorities in the area have imposed some severe lockdown measures.

Given that the population of Xinjiang is about 21.8 million, it would suggest that those measures are working.

By comparison, there were 816 new cases of coronavirus reported in the UK just yesterday, more in one day than that region in China has reported in the last month.

Unsurprisingly, people commenting on the video in China were praising the hard, hot and gruelling work of workers like the one seen in the video.

One wrote: "This has brought me to tears. Thank you all for working so hard, our angels!"

Another said: "Oh my god, this is shocking! All the medical staff are our true heroes!"

A third wrote: "The summer is so hot and they are wearing so many layers. It's unimaginable how hard it must be. Thank you!"
