American can't believe sinister 90s kids' TV series Round The Twist ever got made

A comedian from the US was left stunned when he happened upon the Australian children's TV show Round the Twist.

If you're a millennial who grew up in the 90s, I know, cue the Jurassic Park music according to that social media trend, then hearing 'Round the Twist' may dredge up the catchy theme tune from somewhere deep in your memory.

The show followed the exploits of the Twist family who live in a lighthouse in a fictional Australian town, including several strange and supernatural goings on - think a similar sort of 90s vibe to the Goosebumps series, but with a more comedic tone, and set in Australia.

Comedian Rob Anderson took to the stage where he highlighted some of the more unusual plot lines to the show, and sharing his disbelief that the show was ever allowed to be made at all, captioning the TikTok video: "I watched Round The Twist and I’ll never be the same."

Some of the episodes Anderson highlighted in a video on TikTok included a 'ghost peeping tom' spying on a child in the bathroom and a water spirit granting her power over water to a boy so he can win a contest at school for who can pee the highest, clearly a much coveted status if you're willing to do deals with supernatural beings over it.

More shockingly, one episode involved a magic lipstick which makes a boy irresistible to 'any female', which turns out to include his own sister, putting Round the Twist decades ahead of Game of Thrones.

After letting the audience sit in it for a while, Anderson said: "This episode won two awards."

Describing the plot of another episode, Anderson said that one character was 'peeing on a tree', which somehow 'makes him pregnant, and he has to give birth through his mouth to this child, who he immediately abandons'.

People took to the comments on the video to share their memories of the show, with one writing: "Round the twist was incredible! I can't remember a single episode, but the theme song will never leave my mind"

Another said: "This is what's wrong with the children of today. They're not watching enough award winning bonkers Australian child fever dreams."

Recalling a scarier episode, one person replied: "The one about the scarf that turned into a fox TRAUMATIZED me as a kid."

Meanwhile one wrote: "I watched this show and don't remember much about it...now I know why...I blocked it all out. I remember the theme tune though."

Some recalled an episode in which a character is cursed, meaning that he has to finish every sentence by saying '...without my pants'.

"I absolutely loved it. Without my pants," one joked.

The series was adapted from children's books by children's author Paul Jennings, who was also involved in the show's production.

And while it might be a blast from the past, the show is actually now set to return to ITVX, where it will be available to stream from 17 September
