Bad skippy.

There are plenty of things that are quintessentially Australian; be it Lamingtons, John Farnham, thongs, being burned by your car seat belt in Summer and a democracy sausage.

However these things rarely come together in one setting.

Sure, you might be scoffing some Lamingtons, while wearing your thongs and listening to a bit of 'You're the Voice', but that's a rare occasion.

But this purely coincidental mashup of Australian culture is nearly too good to be true: a kangaroo breaking into a family's holiday home to steal some Vegemite.

Not only did Skippy nip into a family's property but she also tried to nick some salt and vinegar chips.

Lisel Hussey filmed the moment the kangaroo and her joey came into their holiday cabin in Canberra, and has told The Today Show that the marsupial had absolutely no qualms about hopping around them to get some food.

"Totally thought I was seeing things, thought I was in a dream, especially when she had the baby with her," Lisel told the Channel 9 programme.

The kangaroo took a bunch of swipes at trying to get the Vegemite from the counter, knocking it down onto the floor.

"Tell you what, I wouldn't want to play Snap against her," Lisel said.

"We were cautious because she is a wild animal but we eventually had to shoo her on out. She didn't want to go."

It'd be interesting to see whether kangaroos are fond of the good ole fashion Aussie spread or if they would kick it to the curb.

The family was hosting a German exchange student and they had to tell him that this isn't a regular thing in Australia. However, Melchior Kasche told the TV network that he was absolutely blown away by this interaction with Aussie culture.

"It was absolutely amazing. I saw a kangaroo only two or three times before and I woke up at the weekend and there was a kangaroo in my bedroom and it was very soft and fluffy. It was amazing," he said.

This definitely is not a regular thing and no doubt Melchior will go back home with a pretty cool story to tell to his mates.
