Conjoined twins Brittany and Abby explain what happens when they get sick

Conjoined twins Brittany and Abby explain what happens when they get sick

The pair recently hit the headlines after it emerged Abby had tied the knot

Conjoined twins Brittany and Abby Hensel have explained what happens when one - or both of them - get sick.

Abby and Brittany, from Minnesota, are dicephalus conjoined twins, which means they share a bloodstream and all of the organs below the waist.

They still have two hearts, however, and Abby controls the right limbs while Brittany controls the left.

While they do have two digestive systems and two separate stomachs, they share the same bladder and excretion system.

And in an old video which has recently resurfaced on social media, the twins explained what happens if they get a stomach ache.

Abby explained that although she cannot feel the left side of their body, when she gets stomach pain, she actually feels it on the left.

And it's the same for Brittany. Although she controls the left side - and cannot feel anything on the right side of their body - she only feels stomach pain on the right.

"When my stomach hurts it hurts right here," says Abby, pointing to the left side of her stomach.

"I can't feel this, I can't feel anything but my stomach hurts right there and Brittany's stomach hurts here.

"... I can only feel my right side."

Brittany adds: "And I can only feel my left side."

"But when we have stomach aches, it hurts on the opposite side," they add.

"Isn't that weird?"

Last week, social media users were shocked to learn via public records that Abby tied the knot to nurse and US Army veteran, Josh Bowling, back in 2021.

Since then, the twins have been inundated with questions.

Following an influx of comments online about their lives, the twins recently shared a message to 'the haters'.

The video revealed a photo with Josh, in which they wrote: “This is a message to all the haters out there.

“If you don’t like what I do, but watch everything I’m doing, you’re still a fan.”

The twins first hit our screens aged just six following an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 1996.

After appearing on a number of documentaries and having their own reality show on TLC, Abby and Brittany pretty much became the most famous conjoined twins in the world.

Despite their fame, both went on to obtain degrees from Bethel University and are now elementary school teachers in their local town.
