Brits are arguing over Halloween decoration that's 'gone too far'

Spooky season is upon us... but how scary is too scary?

Halloween is just around the corner, meaning for a brief period, normal societal conventions will go out of the window.

It will be acceptable to knock on a stranger's door and threaten them into giving you sweets. It will be acceptable for pubs to have cobwebs all over the ceiling. And it will be acceptable to dress up as a creepy clown/sexy rabbit/fat pumpkin.

However, when the name of the game is frightening people, it can sometimes be hard to tell where 'the line' is - and whether you've crossed it.

Over on Reddit, people are having this very debate about a controversial Halloween decoration.

The decoration in question appears to be a mannequin, taped up in bin bags, slumped against the bottom of a tree.

It looks like someone has been murdered and dumped on a lawn, basically.

Captioning the post, the Reddit user said: "Can we all agree that this Halloween 'decoration' goes too far?"

Of course, there was never a chance in hell that everyone would agree that the decoration went too far, as one commenter perfectly put it: "You're asking a group of British people if they all agree?

Too far?

"You do know British can't even agree if it is a bap, roll, bun....."

In fact, the vast majority of people disagreed that it was too far.

One person said: "Nope. If someone nearby was recently killed then it could be in poor taste but, otherwise, it's pretty funny."

Another said it 'doesn't go far enough', and someone else suggested they should 'fill it with rotting offal'.

While a fourth added: "Yeah I agree it's a joke/decoration people need to get a grip stop taking things so seriously."

On this Reddit thread at least, people weren't 'taking things so seriously' at all.

Commenting on the post, one person wrote: "Utterly disgusting. My council would never collect recycling put out like that."

Another added: "Agreed. You should never obstruct the footpath even when you're dead."

While someone else asked: "Why are you presuming it's a decoration?"

Amid the thousands of comments - most of which were jokes or suggestions about how to take the decoration to the next level - there was a sage piece of advice for the original poster.

The Reddit user wrote: "They will probably be more supportive of your moaning on the local Facebook page."
