When I was 18 and finishing my A levels, the only thing on my mind was what university I was going to end up fucking about at for a few years. I had no ambition, drive, determination or skills to show off to the biggest companies in the world.
Thankfully for Matt Quinney, he is the polar opposite of me. So much so, he's landed an apprenticeship at none other than Google after beating thousands of applicants in an X Factor-style audition process.
Matt, an A-Level student at Maplesden Noakes School in Maidstone, Kent, beat thousands of entrants in the first round of interviews before topping the list of 800 entrants in the second stage.

The 18-year-old then stood out from a group of candidates at a selection day before entering the 'final 14' in a four-stage audition.
And why did he put himself through all of this? Well, he's been offered a job with Google's marketing team despite still being at school. He's pretty much made for life if he wants it enough.
Matt said: "Google was really interested in the skills I had developed at school including the business challenge.
"They were looking for somebody with marketing experience who had worked in a team, so this put me in a great position."

The business challenge basically sees students given the chance to complete project-based work with local businesses for a £1000 prize for the winners.
Jane Prideaux, head teacher at Matt's school, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for Matt. He has done exceptionally well to secure an apprenticeship with such a high profile multi-national company."
Looks like Matt won't be doing any of the fucking around I did in my short stint at uni. He's only 18 and already more of a real adult than me.
