The story of twin boys - with one boy embracing his sick brother - has warmed the hearts of the globe.

Recently, though, the story of the Buchmeyer twins, who were born on August 18, has taken a sad turn. The parents of the twins have revealed that one of their baby boys, Hawk, died from a rare congenital condition.

They announced on Facebook that their son passed away from Congenial Diaphragmatic Hernia - a hole in the diaphragm that can allow organs to move from the abdomen into the chest. "Our hearts are saddened this morning as our sweet little man was called home to be with Jesus," they wrote in a status directed to those following the twins' story. "He went very peacefully and we know he's no longer suffering. Please give us some time to grieve and try to start the healing process."

The devastating news has sent the thousands of supporters who were willing this little lad on into mourning.

The photo attracted a flood of messages of support from thousands of people worldwide.

Those who followed the progress of the twins were kept up to date through a series of poignant statuses and images captured by parents Brady Guettler and Tommy Buchmeyer.

Our sincerest thoughts go out to the family.
