A millennial mum was left shocked after her kid told her a list of ‘old person’ names that included her own and many others popular with her generation. Awkward.

Amber Cimiotti, 37, from Los Angeles, is a mum to a Gen Alpha daughter who is currently going to school - and it was when she returned home from school one day that she told her mum about some of the ‘old people's names’ her new teachers have.

For any millennials reading, you may want to brace yourselves for the next part.

In a clip shared on TikTok, Cimiotti said: “The other day my daughter told me the names Ashely or Amanda, or my name is Amber, are, like, old people names - and I never thought about it this way.

“But she's like, ‘Yeah, my teachers' names are like, Miss Erica, Miss Samantha. There's Amandas and Ashleys’. And she's like, ‘Those are just old people names.’”

Cimiotti then goes to list ‘young people names’, which include her daughter’s moniker Scarlett as well as Charlotte, Olivia, Penelope, Isabella, Bella and Ella.

She went on: “I mean, for me, Ashley is always going to be my friend from elementary. So it seems like a kid name, but it's not.

“All of these names are like basically the new Margaret or Barbara.”

The clip has since racked up a whopping 2.8 million views and attracted plenty of attention - mostly from fellow millennials.

Responding to the post one person said: “As an Amanda, I am horrified.”

Someone else chipped in: “My daughter told me a kid in her class has a dad name. Kids name is Josh.”

A third wrote: “Kid in my class asked me to tell her a grandma name. I said Gertrude. She said, ‘I think I’ll use Nicole.’”

While another said: “Erica here. Feeling attacked.”

Others pointed out that the ‘young people’ names were actually repurposed ‘old people’ names from back in day, with one person adding: “Little do they know that the ‘new names’ are actually grandma names to us.”

The millennial mum was shocked by her daughter’s definition of ‘old people’ names.

Aside from some names seemingly ageing a person - teachers recently revealed the ‘red flag’ names they look out for with their new students.

Blogger SJ Strum asked teachers to share their opinions on kids' names and they did not hold back.

In a clip shared on YouTube, Strum said: “A lot of teachers were like ‘yep, there are names that are red-flags’.

“There were some that stuck out and came up again and again.

“Jake, Max, Jack and the biggest one for boys was anything ending in den - so Hayden, Jayden, apparently always naughty, always disruptive, not listening.

“When it came to girls it was quite interesting, apparently Islas and Jessicas are really chatty names.

“Apparently Martha is high-maintenance. Alexandra can be a bit of a bully apparently.

“So, there are names that people judge. It is very common.”
