A man ended up being left ‘totally stranded’ in Egypt after he made a major discovery when arriving.

Mark Jeavons was buzzing for his four-night stay at the Pyramids and Sphinx View Hotel in Giza but when he showed up, he found a new addition to Ancient Egyptian History.

The 43-year-old got to the address at midnight to be presented with an empty back alley. He explained that there was ‘nothing’ there and ‘no sign of a hotel’ at all.

“The taxi driver was asking people on the street but no one had heard of it,” said the solo traveller. “I was totally stranded - it was not ideal.”

Quoted at a cheap and cheerful £40-per-night, the listing on Booking.com had shown him all sorts of photos featuring a nice rooftop area to view the famed Pyramids.

With plenty of positive reviews, Mark was set to pay in person at the hotel, supposedly found at Gamal abd al nasser st nazlet elsemman, 12557, Egypt.

Stranded in the middle of the night, the English teacher ended up roaming the streets before finding emergency accommodation over an hour later at The Sun and Sand Hotel.

And he ended up having to drop more than £80 a night on that.

Not having thought twice before booking the original place thanks to its ‘glowing reviews’ he set about unearthing the invisible hotel’s mystery when he got back home.

He said: “I later found out on Google reviews that there were lots of people saying it was a scam and not to book it.”

After the bloke complained to Booking.com, the hotel apparently disappeared from the site.

The Sphinx and Pyramids View hotel in Giza was uploaded to the Booking.com site on 19 July, 2024.

So far, it’s racked up a 9.0 rating based off 44 reviews with positive recommendations swamping those labelling it a scam.

Images on Booking.com showed the hotel having luxurious bedrooms, women posing in bathtubs and others standing in front of the pyramids.

Despite his midnight disaster, Mark still had a decent trip taking in the wonders of Egypt.

He said: “There is more freedom when you are solo travelling.

“It would have been worse if there were wife and kids.”

A spokesperson for Booking.com said: "We were sorry to hear about the experience of this customer with a property listed on our platform.

"While the hotel has successfully hosted a number of guests, we are investigating further and will be in contact with the customer directly to offer any further support."
