A man has been reunited with his biological dad after reaching out with a text message.

Cameron - whose Twitter handle is @CamDiggz - found out about his biological dad when he was 18, but only recently felt ready to get in touch, eight years later.

Taking to Twitter, he shared a screenshot of the first message he sent to his dad, which read: "I don't really know how to do this. I'm just wondering and hoping you and I could have a conversation."

His dad asked: "About what?"

Cameron replied: "The possibility of you being my biological father."

Clearly, the conversation did grow from there, because Cameron shared a screenshot of the text message exchange alongside a photo of him stood arm in arm with his old man.

The tweet - which was posted on Saturday - went viral, racking up 400,000 likes at the time of writing.

In a series of subsequent tweets, Cameron said he hoped his story would inspire others in similar situations to bide their time and take steps on their own terms.

The 26-year-old said: "I now have two fathers. My father that raised me is still in my life. I found out about my biological dad when I was 18.

"I didn't actually do a DNA test until I was 26. Once it came back no probability I reached out to my biological dad.

"Typed all of that to say. Take your time and move at your own pace. Do what you need to do when YOU'RE ready not when you feel like everyone thinks you should be.

"It can be scary af. You're human tho so embrace it."

Cameron's viral tweet prompted many others to share their stories, and he encouraged people who had not yet had a happy ending to keep their chins up.

He wrote: "This post did a LOT. Y'all's stories are inspiring and beautiful. Thanks to each and every one of you for sharing.

"Also for the ones who's stories didn't end as you expected, your story isn't over.

"Keep your head up and always remember how far you've come."
