'Alien Enthusiast' Who Mysteriously Disappeared Turned Up Five Months Later
| Last updated
An alien enthusiast who mysteriously disappeared for over five months says he went on a 'mystical journey of the soul'.
Student Bruno Borges, 25, vanished from his home in Brazil, while reportedly working on a secret project.
His room was found to be locked - when his family got inside they found it had been cleared of all its furniture and plastered with pages and pages of code. It also now housed a £2,000 ($2,700) statue of a 16th century alien hunter. Sounds a bit like my bedroom, to be honest.
His mum Denis Borges told the Gaucho newspaper: "He was clever. In school he was always different - a born leader with high powers of persuasion.
"He is such a kind-hearted boy."
His mysterious disappearance in March hit headlines around the world, with many conspiracy theories popping up online, covering everything from an alien kidnap to an Illuminati hit.
Speaking at the time, his family said he was working on a set of books that would 'change humanity in a good way'.
The police were informed an investigation was launched by Brazil's Criminal Investigation Department, which said 'all possibilities' were being considered.
Weird, huh? And the story gets even weirder when five months later Bruno rocks up and says he had to isolate himself as part of his project, which aims to awaken 'a sick society'.
He told G1.Globo.com: "I had notion that the Philosopher's Stone was within the dark land, so I went after entering that dark land to find it. Just as the hero enters the cave to kill a dragon and Jonah enters a whale, I also plunged into the sea of the unconscious in order to rescue myself.
"Ask yourselves: Is it easy to leave the people I love, risking my life and integrity in order to awaken a sick society and find something bigger in myself?"
While that all sounds very noble and exciting, the publication also reports that the authorities are now exploring the theory that Bruno planned the whole thing as a publicity stunt for his books.
I, of course, would never be so cynical about a fellow alien enthusiast. The truth is out there, guys.
