Sad message remains untouched at abandoned aquarium which has been left to rot

An abandoned aquarium holds a hidden message from those who used to work there

In 2018 the Manly Sea Life Sanctuary in Sydney, Australia, closed down for the final time after around 55 years of welcoming visitors.

Ever since then the abandoned aquarium has been left to decay, containing only echoes of the many visitors who visited it throughout the years.

In particular the aquarium's underwater tunnel was a special draw for visitors but time claims all in the end and devoid of caretakers the old place has fallen into ruins.

While the abandoned aquarium may not welcome visitors any longer that doesn't mean that nobody goes there, as such sites are prime spots for explorers who take a look around the places everybody else left behind.

A group calling themselves the Abnormal Club visited the rotting ruins of the Manly Sea Life Sanctuary and made plenty of fascinating discoveries.

Five years on from shutting down for good the abandoned aquarium is a sorry sight.

They explored the darkened aquarium which had lain dormant for years, with the once vibrant place taking on an incredibly eerie aspect after being devoid of marine life.

The Abnormal Club found a place riddled with dirt and decay which captured how the place was starting to fall apart without people to care for it.

One discovery that was particularly striking was a hidden message left behind by the staff at the aquarium.

It read: "Today is our last day. Thank you so much for supporting us for the last 55 years! From all of us, Manly Sea Life Sanctuary."

The message stood as a clear sign of what the place had once been life and had become a farewell to both the visitors and to the place itself.

While the world isn't exactly teeming with abandoned aquariums, they are a popular spot for urban explorers hoping to make some eerie discoveries.

In the past explorers have discovered plenty of animal remains which were left behind when the people moved out.

One discovered the bodies of sharks and squids in a Spanish aquarium just left lying around with nobody to clean the place up or bother what happened to the exhibits.

In another aquarium the body of a great white shark which had been preserved lay abandoned in a tank of poisonous formaldehyde for years before rescue efforts decided to do something.

The shark, later dubbed 'Rosie', ended up being recovered from the abandoned site in Australia after a YouTuber rediscovered it.

While these places might have been abandoned they've not been forgotten by everybody.
