Photo of six friends having selfie together leaves people creeped out after spotting a seventh face

A group of pals who took a selfie during a hike got a sinister surprise after taking a closer look at the snap.

The frightening photograph of the six-strong group went viral a few years back after it was posted on Reddit, as social media users spotted a gatecrasher in the image.

Half a dozen of them had headed out on a hike in Chile - however, there was seven faces in the selfie.

The photo was uploaded to the r/whenyouseeit thread on Reddit alongside the fairly innocent caption: "A friend of mine sent me this picture from his group of friends in Chile."

But upon further inspection, you might spot that the absolutely terrifying photobomber who dived in the picture. A spooky, ghoulish looking face can be seen lurking among two of the women who are nestled closely together.

Many people were left very creeped out by the picture after spotting the mystery face. See if you can spot it below, or scroll further down if you want to see where it is.

Nice picture, right? (Reddit)

A seventh person hidden?

With this one, you have got to be a serious sniper to spot them, but if you look closely they very much are there.

We'll give you a moment, and we apologise in advance.

If you're struggling to find it, you might try looking around the six people in the foreground.

If you still can't see anything, here's another clue for you - take a closer look at the bottom left of the photo.

There happens to be another person in between the two women on the left. Apologies if you just had kittens, but I did sort of warn you about this earlier.

Yeah, we're sorry (Reddit)

'I got goosebumps'

After noticing the extra person, social media users were utterly horrified, as one person commented: "I am not exaggerating when I say that when I finally saw it, I got goosebumps and felt genuine fear. What the f**k. I believe in ghosts again now."

Another penned: "My dumba** was looking at the red thing in the bottom left corner. I was like uhhh looks like someone was just cut out the pic… then BOOM, I saw it. Runs to hide under the covers."

Rather, a third person thought: "It's just a person that's also in the group with their face being hidden in shadow by the two around it, and made to look creepy with that intense blue filter.

"You can even see the top of the person's head and hair illuminated normally by the daylight."

Doctored photo? Unlikely

Another Redditor said: "It gave me chills, for sure. Usually I just laugh these things off, or assume the photo is doctored in a way I can’t really detect, but not this time.

"And once you see it, you can’t try to make it be something else, like the way the guy’s jacket is bunched up, or a combination of that and part of the hair from one of the girls.

"Nothing else fits. It’s very clearly something/someone that doesn’t belong there."

That's enough internet for one day.
