Amy Schumer Shares The One Joke She Wasn't Allowed To Say At The Oscars

'My lawyer said not to say these. Don’t tell anybody and don’t get mad at me.'

Amy Schumer didn't get to deploy all of her jokes at this year's Oscars. Although, she did squeeze in a fantastic gag about Leonardo DiCaprio, which you can watch below:

Comedians ripping into Hollywood's A-listers is part-and-parcel with the Academy Awards.

While there's probably a collective sigh of relief when Ricky Gervais isn't announced as the host, attending actors still need to brace themselves for a few jokes.

This year, in addition to the massive roster of presenters, Schumer hosted the ceremony with Wanda Sykes and Regina Hall.

During her first gig after the Oscars at Las Vegas’s Mirage Theatre on 2 April, she revealed there were a few jokes she wasn't allowed to tell, including jabs at James Franco and Joe Rogan, the latter of whom has been surrounded in controversy in recent months over his podcast.

For one joke, Schumer wanted to address the fatal shooting on the set of Rust, where Alec Baldwin's gun discharged and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.

She said (as per Vanity Fair and Variety): "I want to preface these Oscar jokes by saying that my lawyer said not to say these. Don’t tell anybody and don’t get mad at me.

"Don’t Look Up is the name of a movie? More like don’t look down the barrel of Alec Baldwin’s shotgun. I wasn’t allowed to say any of that [at the Oscars], but you can just come up and [slap] someone."

Baldwin wasn't charged in connection with Hutchins' death. In an arbitration filing, his lawyer wrote: "This is a rare instance when the system broke down, and someone should be held legally culpable for the tragic consequences."

Schumer's remarks also referenced the most notable moment at this year's Oscars: when Will Smith smacked Chris Rock across the face for his 'G.I. Jane 2' joke about Jada Pinkett Smith, all before winning an award himself.

She said: "I was kind of feeling myself… and then all of a sudden, Ali [in reference in Muhammad Ali, whom Smith portrayed in the 2001 biopic Ali] was making his way up.

"And it was just a f**king bummer. All I can say is that it was really sad, and I think it says so much about toxic masculinity.

"It was really upsetting, but I think the best way to comfort ourselves would be for me to say the Oscar jokes that I wasn’t allowed to say on TV."

Schumer also wrote on social media that she was 'still triggered and traumatised' by the incident.
