Ana De Armas doesn’t believe there should be a female James Bond to replace Daniel Craig in the next flick for the franchise.

The actor who starred in No Time to Die recently spoke with The Sun and revealed that while she would like to see more female roles in the Bond universe, they don't need to change a classic.

She said: “There’s no need for a female Bond.

"There shouldn’t be any need to steal someone else’s character, you know, to take over.

"This is a novel, and it leads into this James Bond world and this fantasy of that universe where he’s at.

“What I would like is that the female roles in the Bond films, even though Bond will continue to be a man, are brought to life in a different way.

"That they’re given a more substantial part and recognition. That’s what I think is more interesting than flipping things.”

Daniel Craig weighed in on the conversation last year of possibly subverting the gender roles in the beloved franchise and agreed women need juicer parts.

He told Radio Times: "There should simply be better parts for women and actors of colour.

"Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”

Craig also spoke of working with Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge, who helped with the script of his last Bond movie.

He said: She’s got devilish humour. Her influence permeates a lot of this film.

"She walked that fantastic line of keeping it as a thriller and being very funny.

"But Phoebe didn’t come in to change Bond. She came in to spice it up for sure, but she’s a Bond fan – she wasn’t about to take him in a different direction.”

Plans for the next instalment remain largely unknown; however, James Bond producer Barbara Broccoli confirmed the title role would undergo a complete makeover.

The Deadline reports that while speaking at a private event in London honouring her work, Broccoli said: “Nobody’s in the running.

“We’re working out where to go with him, we’re talking that through.

"There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond.

“We’re reinventing who he is and that takes time.

"I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”
