Anne Hathaway doesn't like being called Anne

Anne Hathaway doesn't like being called Anne

Back in 2021, Anne Hathaway revealed that she doesn't like being called Anne.

Actor Anne Hathaway has previously revealed that she actually doesn't like being called Anne - despite that actually being her first name.

While many of us have a nickname that some of our mates call us, it is not usually because we don't like our first name.

But the 40-year-old Hollywood star said in an interview back in 2021 that no one in her personal life actually calls her Anne.

She said that the only time she is ever called by her first time is by her mum, and that is sticky situation as it means she is in trouble.

Appearing on the The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Anne let slip that she hates being called Anne and would prefer people to call her 'anything but Anne'. Watch it below:

So, Ms Hathaway said: "Call me Annie, everybody, everybody, call me Annie, please."

Before adding: "It's... can we talk about my name for a second?"

Hathaway then went on to explain to host Fallon that while Anne is her real first name, it's really more of a stage name.

She said that she ended up with Anne as the stage name when she first got into acting at the age of just 14.

Hathaway said: "When I was 14 years old, I did a commercial, and I had to get my SAG [Screen Actors Guild] card and they asked me, 'What do you want your name to be?'

"And I was like, 'Well, it should be my name. My name's Anne Hathaway.

"So that seemed like the right choice, but it never occurred to me that for the rest of my life, people will call me Anne."

So what should we be calling Anne... sorry Ms Hathaway then?

Well, as long as it's not Anne, the Hollywood actor is not too bothered.

She explained to Fallon though that people call her Annie, Miss H or Hath - so we will go with one of those.

Miss H continued by saying that no one calls her 'Anne' outside of work, and only a brave person would have done so at work after this interview.

She concluded: "So, every time I step out in public and someone calls my name, I think they're going to yell at me.

"People are like, 'Anne!' And I'm like, 'What? What did I do?'

"People are so lovely they don't want to be presumptuous and so I think they come up with workarounds on set because the truth is nobody's comfortable with calling me Anne ever.

"It doesn't fit. I'm an Annie."
