Barry Keoghan has opened up about his friendship with Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, revealing that the Hollywood A-lister once sent him a 10-minute long detailed voicenote to help him out with some advice for a part.

Keoghan currently stars in The Banshees of Inisherin and was even nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor for his part, completing a long journey that started in foster care as a child.

Having started his career in films such as ’71 and Trespass Against Us, Martin McDonagh’s critically-acclaimed film set in Keoghan’s homeland of Ireland is his first real step into major awards contention.

That said, he has already starred in Marvel’s Eternals and DC’s The Batman so he knows a thing or two about the limelight.

Luckily for Keoghan, he’s got some very famous friends to help him out as he navigates the move into being one of the world’s most talked about actors.

Barry Keoghan lived with Colin Farrell whilst filming The Banshees of Inisherin.

In a recent interview, he spoke about how The Rock has helped him out along the way, as well as living with Colin Farrell whilst filming his latest film.

Keoghan said: “There are so many people out there who have given me advice.”

One such person – and someone who doesn’t seem to shy away from offering out a bit of wisdom – was Dwayne Johnson.

Keoghan continued: “I reached out to him (about) a part I was having trouble trying to find. He sent me a 10-minute voicenote.

“I could hear pages flicking.

“He’d written it all down.”

The pair met back in 2019 at an event, but have become fast friends ever since.

In a previous interview, Keoghan explained: “When I met the Rock, he took the time to have a good chat with me.

“He said if there’s anything he could ever do, to let him know, and he gave me his phone number.

"He sent me a baby hamper for my newborn.

“He’s a genuine inspiration.

“Someone of that stature giving you their time and engaging with you, I know it sounds easy, but not a lot of people do it."

Well, Keoghan did eventually manage to get into an even closer relationship with another big name in Hollywood, sharing a house with Colin Farrell whilst filming The Banshees of Inisherin.

However, the countryside does seem to have proven a little bit of a problem for the Dubliner.

Speaking of his time with his fellow Dubliner whilst filming, Keoghan said: “Tell you what, I never thought I’d hear Colin Farrell go, ‘Did you eat my Crunchy Nut last night?’”

No, probably not.

He added: “And one f***in’ shop man!

“I don’t know how I coped. It was beautiful and that, but I knew every f***in’ cow and donkey, it was so barren.”

At least it seems as if it has all been worth it, given the recognition and acclaim that the film has received.
