When it comes to coming-of-age comedies, there are few better than Superbad, but some of the scenes we saw on screen might not have been acting, as it turns out that Jonah Hill really hated one of his co-stars.
If you haven't seen the 2007 classic, it stars Hill alongside Michael Cera and Emma Stone, with both attempting to woo the girls in their high school by promising to bring copious amounts of alcohol, bought via a fake ID, which is never a good idea.
There are plenty of awkward moments that you would expect from a film starring Cera, with the Juno actor revealing that his mum left pretty quickly after seeing one of the scenes he was filming.
It was even worse for Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who plays Fogell (McLovin) in the film, as he was just 17 when the film was made, and his mum had to be present for his sex scene.
Hill's character certainly doesn't get along with McLovin, which seemingly wasn't just because of the script, as the Wolf of Wall Street star opened up about hating him during auditions.
Speaking to Vanity Fair, Hill said that Mintz-Plasse was 'really, really amazing off the bat'. But he added: "I think he was really annoying to me at that time."
Apatow remembered Mintz-Plasse being 'very caustic', adding that he 'attacked Jonah and did improvs insulting Jonah'.
We refuse to imagine a world where McLovin isn't played by Mintz-Plasse (Sony Pictures) Seth Rogen, who played Officer Michaels, added: "Jonah immediately hated him. He was like - 'that was f**king with my rhythm. I couldn’t perform with that guy'."
And now producer Judd Apatow has revealed that his dislike for the teenager was so strong that he urged those in charge to not give him the part.
He explained: “Jonah said, ‘I don’t like that guy. I don’t want him doing it.’ And I said, ‘That’s exactly why we’re hiring him. It couldn’t be more perfect. The fact that it bothers you is exactly what we want.'”
You can really see Mintz-Plasse's character getting on Hill's nerves during the movie and that hatred was evidently a big part of creating an even-better dynamic between the pair.
Although the 36-year-old's career perhaps hasn't had the same trajectory as Hill's, he's gone on to feature in other films such as Role Models and Kick-Ass.
McLovin is one of the stars of the movie (Columbia Pictures) He opened up about his relationship with Hill during a fan expo in Chicago, saying: "Jonah Hill hated me so much after my audition. I get it, I was 17, I was not a professional actor, I was in high school and we're playing high school kids.
"So Jonah's roasting me - and you remember being in high school, you just like yeah it's my f**king buddy roasting me, it's not going to bother me, I'm going to roast him back. And that's what I did in the audition.
"And I left the room... and Jonah's like 'f**k that guy'."
Meanwhile, the kid who played the young version of Hill, who was obsessed with drawing d***s, has revealed how much money he made from featuring in the film.
