Betty White has said she's 'blessed' with good health as she turns 99.

The actor has also revealed that having a good sense of humour about things has helped keep her feeling young as well as enjoying a positive outlook on life.

Speaking to PEOPLE ahead of her 99th birthday on Sunday (17 January), White said: "I am blessed with good health so turning 99 is no different than turning 98."

Offering her advice for a long and happy life, she added: "Don't take yourself too seriously.

"You can lie to others - not that I would - but you cannot lie to yourself."

When asked for tips on how to be happy, she explained: "Again, having a sense of humour. Just looking at the positive side and not dwelling on the downside.

"[It] takes up too much energy being negative.

"Also having a good agent who keeps me busy all the time."

Like most of us, the Hollywood legend is now looking forward to being able to spend time with her friends again once life, hopefully, returns to normal.

Earlier this year, White released a statement to let her army of fans now she was 'doing very well' during the pandemic and was keeping safe at home.

Back in May, her publicist told fans she was socially distancing at home but was keeping herself busy to help pass the time.

In a statement to Today, White's rep said 'no one is permitted in [to her home] except those who must', adding that she has 'helpers who are great with her'.

The rep added: "Betty has [a] beautiful backyard with a number of wild animals visiting. Two ducks always come by to say hello. They waddle up to her glass door and look in." Well, that's pretty cute, isn't it?

Meanwhile one of her pals Tom Sullivan told Closer that White passes the time with crossword puzzles and reading the Los Angeles Times.

He told the news outlet: "She owns literally thousands of crossword puzzle books and is constantly doing them to keep her mind jumping. This is really serious with her."

Another pal revealed that White hadn't felt the need to turn to booze to while away the hours, telling Closer: "Betty loves to joke that vodka keeps her young.

"She loves the image of her sitting at home in a rocking chair, drinking a martini and watching game shows, but she's not really a big drinker.

"That's not her. She'll only take a few sips of a cocktail if the occasion calls for it."

Well, I think turning 99 is certainly an occasion that calls for cocktails - enjoy, Betty!
