It's been a rough week for Brad Pitt. First the actor's wife announced she was filing for divorce after two years of marriage and 11 years of being together. Then he cancelled a screening appearance for his new film to concentrate on his 'family situation'. And then he died...

Well, that's according to the internet, anyway. Turns out it was a sick hoax.

TMZ revealed a fake Fox News report alleging the 52-year-old had suddenly died and warned users it could expose their phone, computer or other device to hackers if clicked on.

If you've already fallen for it, Facebook suggests changing your password immediately and running its malware software scanner.

The fake article had a black and white image of Pitt and was captioned: "BREAKING NEWS: Brad Pitt found dead (suicide).

The link took users to a redirect page, which appeared to be FOX News. However, it actually led users to an app that accesses their data. Jheez. Scary shit that, innit?

According to Mail Online, the hoax site said: "Brad Pitt, 52, a multiawarded American actor and husband of Angelina Jolie, 41, shot himself in the head at a shooting range on Sunday.

"He was under significant stress because the couple "were going through a divorce and he had a history of depression", sources have said.

I know you think we're clickbait but this is a whole new level. Be careful what you're click on out there, lads.
