Jeremy Clarkson Claims If He Doesn't Die Next Year Then He'll Live Forever

Jeremy Clarkson has jokingly said he'll live 'forever' if he doesn't die in the next year because 'everyone' he knows passes away at 61.

The Grand Tour host - who turned 61 last month - said his age forced him to think about becoming an old man himself.

Speaking to SAGA Magazine, he said: "Everyone I know dies at 61. All my friends did, my dad did, that's when you go. If I make it to 62, I'll be here forever.

"When dad died, I thought of him as an old man, but I don't feel old. When I see myself on screen I think, 'Who's that?' I always expect a 19-year-old to be looking back at me.

"But old people don't look like we think they should. When my generation is in old people's homes we're not going to be dancing to Vera Lynn, it'll be 'White Riot' by The Clash."

Earlier this year, Clarkson revealed he spent Christmas battling the coronavirus and feared that he would end up dying alone 'in a plastic tent'.

Days before 25 December, he'd woken up in the night to find his sheets were 'soggy', and also developed a 'constant dry cough'. After taking a test, he discovered that he was positive.

Writing in his column for The Times: "The doctor was very clear... I'd feel under the weather for between five and 14 days and then I'd either get better or I'd have to go to hospital."

He went on to add: "Where, because I am 60 and fat, and because I've smoked half a million cigarettes and had double pneumonia, I'd probably die, on my own, in a lonely plastic tent."

Clarkson said he self-isolated, heading off to bed with a new book to 'wait for the Grim Reaper to pop his head round the door'.

"I'm not going to lie - it was quite scary," he said.

"With every illness I've had, there has always been a sense that medicine and time would eventually ride to the rescue.

"But with Covid-19 you have to lie there, on your own, knowing that medicine is not on its way and that time is your worst enemy."
