Game of Thrones star Masie Williams has donated a whopping £50,000 to an animal rescue centre after hearing that it had lost most of its income due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bristol Animal Rescue Centre started an emergency appeal after the outbreak meant it had to cancel all its planned fundraising events.

But proving that she's a hero on and off the screen, Maisie, who previously adopted her pooch from the rescue centre, handed over £50,000.

Delighted staff shared a clip on Facebook in which they thanked her for her kind donation. Alongside the clip they wrote: "We want to say a massive thank you to Bristol's very own Maisie Williams, the young actress who made an incredibly generous donation to our urgent appeal last Friday, and for also showing us so much support at this difficult time by sharing our appeal information on her Instagram story to all her fans as well.

"To know that she loves and supports what we do really has made the world of difference to us and the animals we care for, so... THANK YOU MAISIE - this one's for you."

Replying to the clip on Twitter, the 23-year-old actor wrote: "You are all most welcome. Be safe."

Maisie, who rescued her dog Sonny from Bristol Animal Rescue Centre back in 2016, said: "Bristol A.R.C. changes the lives of animals everyday and Sonny, my dog who I adopted from them a few years ago, has changed my life in many ways for the better.

"It's so important in these difficult times not to forget about charities like Bristol A.R.C. that need our help. So please make a donation to their appeal if you can. We all need to stick together in these dark times and keep the world spinning regardless."

The centre's manager Jodie Hayward told ITV: "To know that Maisie respects and loves what we do so much means the world to us. I couldn't believe it when I heard what she had done to support us, I had to hold back a few tears! It really will make the world of difference to us right now and we can't thank her enough for her generosity."
