Noel Edmonds loves a box, they're his thing and that's completely fine with me because, usually, they contain huge amounts of cash. However, the Deal or No Deal presenter prompted criticism online today when he suggested a different type of box entirely could actually cause cancer. The 67-year-old posted a picture of an EMPpad - which is an electromagnetic pulse therapy product produced by his former assistant - alongside the caption: "A simple box that slows ageing, reduces pain, lifts depression and stress and tackles cancer. Yep tackles cancer!"
This comment quite clearly lacks tact, and it's not surprising he was called out for it. Vaun Earl, whose Twitter bio says he is ill with kidney cancer, lymph node metastases and psoriatic arthritis, criticised the device and labelled his claims "quackery."
"I think Noel Edmonds should stick to what he's good at. Presenting quiz shows and beard trimming, rather than curing cancer," he wrote on Twitter.
However, Noel responded by suggesting the cancer sufferer contracted the disease because of his "negative attitude." Not cool, Noel, not cool at all! Vaun then responded in a perfectly reasonable manner.
Naturally, the presenter was then trolled online...
However, EMPpad directors have now released a statement saying they do not agree with his comments 'in any way, shape or form'.
"The opinions of Mr Noel Edmonds are his alone and do not reflect in any way with the opinions of us at EMPpad.
"We had no discussion, input or prior knowledge of the content of Mr Edmonds' statement and we do not agree with it in any way, shape or form."
Stick to red boxes with cash in them and National Lottery ads, Noel.
