Triple H has apologised after making a 'terrible' joke about retired professional wrestler Paige's sex life.

The wrestling legend and executive vice president of talent, live events and creative at the WWE - whose real name is Paul Levesque - was speaking to press about her potential return to the ring ahead of NXT UK's TakeOver: Blackpool II.

Paige, 27, from Norwich, retired due to injury in 2018, and when asked if he would like to see her and Edge get back into wrestling, he said: "I'm a fan just like everyone else. I would love to see [Edge or Paige] step into the ring and compete. More importantly than that, though, I would like to see them live long, healthy lives.

"You know, Edge has kids. Paige - maybe - she probably has some she doesn't know of."

Paige - whose real name is Saraya-Jade Bevis - shared the video on Twitter along with the caption: "Even my boss jokes about me.. no wonder you guys still do it too."

Other stars in the industry have also taken to social media to condemn Triple H and support Paige.

Nikki and Brie Bella tweeted: "We will never see the true change in equality if we just see them as storylines. Change in a company starts from the top. Our leaders help set the example.

WWE star Paige said Triple H has apologised for the comment.

"For us women we need all the help we can get. Help with respect from our co workers and fans. We are all one. One love."

Renee Young added: "Big love to Paige. She's been to hell and back but still some people wanna make jokes. We need (and she deserves) real change."

Triple H has since apologised for the 'terrible' joke and said he had reached out to Paige.

Terrible would seem to be a very accurate assessment of the joke. Some fans think the 50-year-old was referencing sex tapes that were leaked in 2017, which caused the two-time Divas Champion to suffer a great deal of online abuse. To top it off, the joke doesn't even make any sense, because how exactly can a woman have children she doesn't know of?

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Paige confirmed that Triple H had reached out to her.

She said: "Obviously I was a little bit perplexed, a little bit taken aback, because he's someone that I truly look up to and he's always been very respectful, so I feel like he got caught up, maybe, in a joke, that I just don't think was appropriate to joke about.

"I don't know, I feel like it's something that I don't need to continually keep talking about because I feel like people have done a pretty good job of that."
