In 2026 it is incredibly common for the most bizarre relationship trends to go viral online as even the nuttiest ‘experts’ now have a platform to present their odd views.

Where in the past this was solely kept to the crazy person yelling on a high street, now you can hear about ‘6-7 dating trends’ or how people put their phones into ‘affair mode’ as if they have some kind of James Bond style attachment to cheat on their partner.

Every now and then though relationship ‘experts’ will come out with ideas that don’t sound too bad, and sometimes you’ll realise it’s actually more common than you’d think.

This has happened with ‘bedroom divorce’, a trend which Olivia Wilde spoke out about saying she is ‘intrigued’ by the idea.

This involves people choosing to stay together but no longer live in the same room, whether it be because their partner snores, talks in their sleeps or (as my partner regularly does) steals the duvet in your sleep and tries to boot you out the bed.

For many however this would not lead to them deciding to stop sleeping in the same bed with the person they love, but a number of A-List celebrities have spoken out about how they did it and found a number of benefits to their relationship.

Kaley Cuoco, the star of Big Bang Theory who has also appeared in the Harley Quinn TV show as well as The Flight Attendant, spoke about this just recently.

Cuoco, who has been married to fellow actor Tom Pelphrey since 2022, stated in a recent interview on the Armchair Expert podcast with Dax Shephard that the pair chose to sleep in different rooms because of differences in their sleep schedule and multiple dogs, stating it kept them stressed they would each wake the other up late at night or early in the morning.

The actor stated this was a ‘game-changer’ for them, adding: “My brain didn't realize it was [about appearances], but I thought, "This doesn't look good.

“We had this like realization, but I didn't know why I thought it was like so looked down upon.

“It works great for us. We're, like, so much happier.”

She is not even the biggest name to have espoused the value of a ‘bedroom divorce’, with Cameron Diaz having spoken about how her and her husband of over a decade Benji Madden don’t share a bed, saying on a 2023 podcast that ‘we should normalize separate bedrooms’.

Though not everyone can quite afford Diaz’s dream arrangement, having separate houses and a ‘bedroom in the middle for relations’, many would jump at the offer of this.

Sarah Paulson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Carson Daly, and Neil Patrick Harris have all shared their fondness of this type arrangement, with Paltrow having said she and her husband Brad Falchuck rarely live together.

She told Motherly all her ‘married friends say that the way we live sounds ideal, and we shouldn't change a thing’, and that it ‘certainly helps with preserving mystery and also preserving the idea that this person has their own life’.
