Diane Keaton once explained the sad reason why she famously loved wearing hats.
The star of the screen died recently at the age of 79, with her family confirming her passing in a short statement asking for privacy.
A spokesperson for the family had said to People magazine: "There are no further details available at this time, and her family has asked for privacy in this moment of great sadness."
She became famous for her acting roles in movies such as The First Wives Club, The Godfather, Something's Gotta Give, and Annie Hall for which she won an Oscar, a BAFTA, two Golden Globes and picked up numerous other nominations.

Keaton even appeared in the music video for the Justin Bieber song 'Ghosts' in 2021, proving herself to be a woman of many talents.

She was actually born under the name Diane Hall, but took her mother's maiden name since an actor had already registered under her birth name, and thus she went into her career as Diane Keaton.
One thing many people noticed about her was her sense of fashion, and in particular her penchant for having a hat perched atop her head.
Speaking to the LA Times in 2019, she explained that she liked her style but also enjoyed hats as they were 'very protective'.

She said: "It hides a multitude of sins. Flaws, anxiety—things like that. I would not feel comfortable in a short skirt or something cut off with my arms hanging out there.
"And I’ve always liked hats. They just frame a head. But, of course, nobody really thinks they’re as great as I do."
However, she also said that it helped 'protect from the sun' after she'd had 'so many skin cancers'.

The famous actor had been diagnosed with skin cancer first when she was 21, and would later be diagnosed with it again and went on to discover that it ran in her family.

Keaton said she might have avoided it if she'd taken it 'seriously'.
Elsewhere in her musings on life, she spoke out about her being 'really glad' she never married and how she knew all along that wasn't what she wanted.
"Today I was thinking, I'm the only one in my generation of actresses who has been a single woman all her life," she had said in 2019.
"I'm really glad I didn't get married. I'm an oddball. I remember in high school, this guy came up to me and said, 'One day you're going to make a good wife'. And I thought, 'I don't want to be a wife. No'."
