Emma Stone reveals brutal impact of filming movie that ‘shifted organs’ in her body

The actor pushed her body to its limits for the film

Emma Stone has revealed the brutal costume which left her with 'shifted organs' after wrapping filming.

The Poor Things star is currently promoting her upcoming film Bugonia, an absurdist comedy which sees her play the role of a pharmaceutical CEO who's been abducted by conspiracy theorists who believe her to be an alien hellbent on destroying the planet.

Bugonia will be Stone's fourth feature film working with director Yorgos Lanthimos, following Kinds of Kindness and her Oscar-winning role in Poor Things; however, it was her first collaboration with Lanthimos, which saw her body physically pushed to the limit.

Back in 2018 the pair teamed up on black comedy film The Favourite alongside Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz.

The period drama follows the 18th-century court of Queen Anne and two courtiers, Abigail and Lady Sarah, who battle for her affection.

Given the film's 18th-century setting, the costumes for Stone, Colman and Weisz involved some pretty tight corsets – which had a lasting impact on Stone's body.

"[This was] my first time ever wearing a corset," she recalled in an interview with Vogue earlier this month.

Unfortunately for the Easy A star, wearing such tight-fitting garments had a lasting impact on her body. "I can confirm it does shift your organs after a while," she continued.

"It pulls you in, I have a very big rib cage, so it’s like an intense thing to manoeuvre... My body was definitely not built for a corset."

Fortunately for the actor, the impact of being tightly laced into a corset was only temporary, with her organs shifting back into their original place after a couple of weeks passed.

"My body shape was different for about a month after The Favourite," she added.

This isn't the only time Stone has expressed discomfort about wearing a corset for a prolonged period of time, with the 36-year-old revealing that she felt like she couldn't breathe and often struggled to sit down during an interview on The Graham Norton Show.

"Women existed in that for such a long time, which does give you a lot of sympathy for that time period and what [they] were going through," she said.

"The bottom half of my stomach went down and then I guess just my ribs stayed up."

However, wearing the tight-fitting garment wasn't all pain and no gain for Stone, as she went on to credit her time in corsets for improving her ability to hold her breath underwater.

"Now I can hold my breath for a really long time underwater," she added in the Vogue interview. "And I think it's because of the corset."
