Gillian Anderson confirms that she is pansexual in new interview
Gillian Anderson has confirmed that she is pansexual.
The X-Files and Sex Education star has reflected on having relationships with women, while currently in a heterosexual relationship with three children from two previous partners.
“In my younger years I was in relationships with women,” the 58-year-old told The Australian.
She said her top turn-ons in a woman were ‘lips’, ‘buttocks’ and ‘the clavicle’.

Anderson previously opened up about pansexuality in a 2024 interview with The New Yorker, asking: “Now, at the age of fifty-five, I am thinking, Oh, am I pansexual? Am I bisexual?”
According to NHS Sexual Health St Helens, pansexual ‘is someone who is attracted to people, regardless of gender’.
During her latest chat with The Australian, Anderson speaks about More, a follow-up to her 2024 bestseller Want.
Both books collect anonymous sexual fantasies submitted by women around the world.
“We put a call out, both in video form, on social media and in various articles. And I think for the second book, Bloomsbury took advantage of a lot of their offices around the world, a lot more than they had in the first,” she said.
“To make sure there was as wide a range as possible of women from different walks of life and social stratas and races etc.
“The courage I think it takes for women to trust the process and submit these fantasies is extraordinary.
“It’s beautifully human. It feels like a real honour.”
Anderson admitted that she isn’t a ‘big flirter’ in real life.
“I don’t put it out there very much. (But) I do hear of a lot of women around our age who are rediscovering their sensuality and their desire for sex,” she added.
“It certainly sounds like they’re in the dating field. That they’re having a lot of fun, a lot of opportunities, but also being approached on these apps by much younger men.
“Which I think is quite a surprise for older women to experience.”
Her openness about sex came after she played Jean Milburn in Sex Education.
“It all came from that character. The conversation about doing these books wouldn’t have happened if it hadn’t been for that. I wouldn’t have started my drinks had it not been for that,” she admitted.
In Want, Anderson revealed that she has a ‘complicated relationship with privacy’, because she is ‘someone who is watched for a living’.
“And indeed, at the very heart of all my own fantasies, I am the watcher, not the watched,” she penned.
