Gypsy Rose Blanchard has shown off her weight loss and credited the change in lifestyle that comes with being out of prison.

The 34-year-old, who last year became a mother, posted a video to Instagram showing the results of her weight loss as she stepped onto a set of scales which said she weighed 108.2 pounds (49kg).

She said: Okay y’all, I’m not gatekeeping. My weight loss came from life circumstances.

"After being released two years ago my lifestyle changed a lot — from commissary junk food to home-cooked meals and trying new foods.

"I don’t follow a workout routine (though I’d love one), I don’t limit my diet, and I don’t use GLP-1.

"I wasn’t actively trying to lose weight… my whole life just changed and adjusted to freedom."

Blanchard had been in prison after being convicted of murdering her mother, Dee Dee, after arranging with her online boyfriend Nicholas Godejohn to carry out the killing.

She let Godejohn into her house and gave him a kitchen knife before hiding in the bathroom while he stabbed her mother to death.

In 2016 she was sentenced to 10 years in prison, of which she served eight, while Godejohn was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole.

She had said she thought killing her mother was the 'only way out' of her situation, as her mother Dee Dee had Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a disorder where someone fakes or induces an illness in a person under their care.

Dee Dee subjected her daughter to a number of unnecessary medical treatments, told people the girl needed a wheelchair and that she had a number of serious conditions including epilepsy, vision impairments and muscular dystrophy.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard is the only known victim of Munchausen syndrome by proxy to escape their situation by killing their abuser.

She previously told LADbible how she would approach telling her own daughter about being convicted of murdering her mother.

"When I was asked in interviews, and that is a question that everybody asked me, my response was always, ‘we will tell her at the right time’," she said.

"But then a bigger conversation needs to be had of like, how do you explain to a child?

"Because things come up, whether they're in school class, someone is going to bring it up, and I want to make sure that her family are the ones that talk to her about it before somebody else does."

Blanchard said she had been visiting a child therapist to discuss how to approach the difficult subject.

She said figuring out how to explain it without help and guidance was 'beyond us as parents'.
