James Franco has made a rare comment about his life in recent years.

The Spider-Man actor was ‘cast out’ of Hollywood and went on ‘hiatus’ after accusations of sexual misconduct were made in 2018.

He was once a staple in the world of film, of course forming an iconic duo with Seth Rogen and appearing in popular movies like The Interview, Pineapple Express and Knocked Up.

However, Franco was pretty much cut off by his co-star following the allegations.

At the time of the lawsuit, he described the allegations as ‘not accurate’ while adding that he didn’t want to ‘shut down’ those who ‘didn’t have a voice’.

With the lawsuit from two former students of his now-defunct film school settled in 2021, he eventually returned to screens with Hey Joe.

Despite having been shrouded in controversy, Franco has quite a number of projects coming up. He is starring in Golden State Killer with Vincent Gallo and The Razor's Edge with Tommy Lee Jones.

In the time since he was ‘cast out’, the 47-year-old says he was a ‘little crazy for a while’ as he hasn’t been so great at getting a healthy work-life balance.

“I love movies so much and there were so many stories I wanted to tell,” Franco told Variety.

“I went back to film school to learn how to direct [and realised]: ‘I’m no longer the person who has to wait for them to call me to be in their movie. I can make my own films!’ This started a whole other chapter.”

The 127 Hours actor explained that he still has that ‘obsession’ when it comes to working in film.

“Let’s call it that, because I’m the kind of person who can become really obsessive,” he added.

“But I’ve also learnt it’s good to have balance. I had to learn its importance.”

Franco previously said that he took a ‘pause’ and experienced ‘changing priorities’ when he had his break from acting.

"Ultimately, I think I’m kind of grateful because it did afford me a chance to just do whatever private work and really change what I need to change,” he told Variety.

“So now that I am working, I can just be there for the project.

"It’s not about me trying to fill some hole with work, it’s just about, 'Wow, I have a really great life. I’m very grateful, and I hope to serve whatever project I do'."
