James Franco was previously ‘cast out’ from Hollywood after serious allegations were made against him.
But having started to make a return to acting in 2024, he’s now appearing in some rather bizarre TikToks. And he’s getting absolute backlash for it.
Franco left people baffled when the TikTok account started popping up earlier this month, with videos featuring him alone at home claiming not to be ‘promoting anything’.
“Some serious s**t’s going on,” he said in one erratic clip as he insisted: “I’m real.”

Franco claimed to see something ‘not human’ in his garage and that he thinks he’s ‘being watched’.
In the most recent clip, posted last night (15 June) he claimed: “It’s an alien.”
But while he consistently insists this isn’t some sort of ‘hoax’ and ‘is real’, he’s been called out in the comments.

“Hey guys, this is James Franco. Me, really James Franco. I’m here at my house,” he said in one of the earlier clips.
“I’m not promoting anything, OK? I’m making this account because, all right, some serious, some serious sh*ts going on. OK, and look here, this is real. OK, I’m real. It’s me, not AI, not anything. OK?”
Franco’s videos have racked up millions of views, with users pretty confused in the comments as plenty of them are sure it’s linked to a movie project.
And it’s worth noting that this account, @jamesfranco2319 only follows two others on TikTok: Love Meets in the Sunshine (an upcoming film) and its director, Christian Guiton.
Produced by Cloud9 Studios and David Dobrik, the upcoming road-trip comedy wrapped filming in November last year and stars Nick Antonyan, Gene Simmons and, you guessed it, Franco.
So, while he seems to be insisting it’s ‘not promo’, these videos seem pretty suspicious. "This is starting to get BORIIING….” one user commented.
“I’m just getting tired James, you gotta say what’s going on lol,” another said.
While plenty claimed: “He’s promoting his next movie coming out," as others slammed: "You do realise if this ends up about a movie I'll go put of my way not to watch it?You do realise if this ends up about a movie I'll go put of my way not to watch it?" Of course however, there are some engaging with his content who do genuinely seem to be interested in it.
There is not yet a release or streaming date for Love Meets in the Sunshine.
Since Franco made his return to acting in 2024, he’s mostly just appeared in independent projects and small TV shows. But earlier this year it was announced that he had joined the cast of John Rambo, an upcoming prequel to the iconic Sylvester Stallone film following the character’s earlier years as a green beret.
Recently, his old friend and long-time acting partner Seth Rogen gave a rare comment on Franco as he said he has ‘no plans to’ work with him again.
Allegations were previously made public that Franco had slept multiple student at his acting school and was accused of sexual assault by an ex-girlfriend. At the time of the lawsuit, he described the allegations as ‘not accurate’ while adding that he didn’t want to ‘shut down’ those who ‘didn’t have a voice’.
