A British widow was conned out of £500k and lost her home after being scammed by a fake AI version of Jason Momoa.
Older people are often the targets for scammers, who now have the benefit of artificial intelligence to help them convince vulnerable victims that they really are the celebrities they claim to be.
We've already seen con artists take on the personas of Brad Pitt and Gary Barlow in a bid to steal money from the elderly and the Hawaiian Hollywood star has become the latest man to be utilised by sickening online scammers.
The woman, who has not been named, had followed a fan page for the Aquaman actor after her husband of 50 years had passed away, and she was shocked to receive a message which she believed to be from Momoa himself not long after.

AI-generated videos soon convinced the widow that she and the 46-year-old actor were destined to be together after his divorce to Lisa Bonet in 2024, and the requests for cash soon followed.
The fraudster suggested to the woman that Momoa's money was tied up in film projects and asked for £500,000 so that he could build them a dream home in his birthplace of Hawaii.

She even sold her house in Cambridgeshire to raise the funds but once she sent over the enormous sum, she immediately lost all contact with her mysterious suitor.
Cambridgeshire Police said: "This might sound far-fetched but it's a true story and it left a vulnerable woman without a home."

This isn't even the first time that an artificial version of Momoa has been used to dupe an older woman out of her money, as a grandmother from Newcastle also lost £80k in the same way.
She first sent money to him so he could book flights to see her but 'then it was presents for his daughter'.
The grandmother added: “I had conversations with who I thought was his daughter who was turning 15.
“I was also told he was fighting his ex-wife for the house and he said we needed a marriage certificate to keep the house.
“So I was gullible and paid it.”

This is only the latest example of how AI continues to harm society, with experts almost unanimously in agreement that the technology is posing a huge threat to humanity as it continues to gain intelligence.
You only need to compare the original videos of Will Smith eating spaghetti to see how far the tech has come in the past few years, and AI dupes may well be the least of our worries if it eventually enslaves the human race.
After all, as experts have pointed out, there are very few examples in history of a more intelligent thing or person being subservient to a less intelligent one, with the godfather of AI suggesting that there may now only be one way in which we can save ourselves.
LADbible has contacted the representatives of Jason Momoa for comment.
