Jennifer Lawrence once made an honest admission about a film that she worked on, where she was sleeping with the director.
It's rare to see a celebrity being so open about their private life, but the Hunger Games star usually isn't afraid to answer interviewers' questions.
While Lawrence, 34, is now happily married to Cooke Maroney with a second child on the way this year, it hasn't stopped the actor from spilling the tea when it comes to her past.
The Oscar-winner has previously spoken about her relationship with director Darren Aronofsky, admitting in an interview that she didn't understand the film that they shot together.
Mother! is the title she spoke about, with the mind-bending psychological horror leaving not just the audience, but apparently the actor behind the titular character, confused.
The 2017 movie was directed by Aronofsky, and also starred the likes of Javier Bardem, Kristen Wiig, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Ed Harris, among others.
Unfortunately, the film didn't perform spectacularly, with negative reviews affecting its box office performance, grossing just $44.5 million against its $30 million budget.
Lawrence reflected on her time while shooting the film, which wasn't the best - not to mention the torn diaphragm and dislocated rib she sustained on set due to hyperventilation.
With all the stress, she wasn't able to leave work behind when going home with Aronofsky, as she recalled in a 2017 interview with Variety: "We’d be on the tour together, I’d come back to the hotel and the last thing I want to talk about or think about is the movie, but he comes back and that’s all he wants to talk about."
“I get it. It’s his baby. He wrote it. He conceived it. He directed it”, she admitted, though it was very taxing on her.
Jennifer Lawrence dated the director while acting on Mother! (Paramount) Lawrence went on: "I was doing double duty of trying to be a supportive partner while also being like ‘Can I please, for the love of God, not think about ‘Mother!’ for one second?’"
Just two months after its release and after a year of dating, the couple split up.
The film follows a poet and his wife, whose lives become a mess when uninvited guests come to their home in the countryside, uninvited.
It explores religious symbolism and violence, but the fact is that a lot of viewers found the plot confusing and bizarre, with many getting lost as the story went on.
Opening up about her relationship with the Black Swan director, Lawrence added that she too was completely lost.
Speaking with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, she was asked how much she understood of the plot 'on a scale of one to totally confused', and replied: “I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had CliffsNotes. So… five? Or a four.
“But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!"
Don't worry J-Law - we were lost too (Emma McIntyre/WireImage) Despite this, the actor did try to explain the plot of Mother! in her interview with Deadline.
“The most important thing to know about this film before seeing it is that it’s all allegory. It’s all metaphor that’s tied to this narrative. It’s the creation and decimation of the universe, including Biblical themes and creation of religion," she said.
“I represent Mother Earth, and what I have is Baby Jesus - if we guess the religion. I play this woman who has built this home from the ground up. I’m in a relationship with an artist who is obsessed with needing appreciation from me first, and then I’m not enough."
