Not typically making public appearances these days, Jim Carrey stepped back into the spotlight last week as he was honoured at the César Film Awards in Paris.
However, conspiracy theories quickly fired up that it actually wasn’t him at all.
Rumours were already spiralling that the actor had been ‘replaced’ with a ‘body double’ and then a makeup artist seemed to claim it was actually them.
Alexis Stone, who is known for impersonating characters and celebrities, shared pictures of a mask, wig and fake teeth on Instagram that seems to suggest they pretended to be Carrey.

However, as a prosthetics expert has already debunked this to LADbible, the César Film Awards have also responded to the clone conspiracy. The general delegate has said the 64-year-old’s attendance was authentic and a ‘historic moment’.

Speaking to Variety, Gregory Caulier of the César Awards said the rumours are a non-issue’ and said Carrey’s appearance had been in the works since the summer.
“From the outset, he was extremely touched by the Academy’s invitation. Eight months of ongoing, constructive discussions,” Caulier said of Carrey.
“He worked on his speech in French for months, asking me about the exact pronunciation of certain words.
“He came with his partner, his daughter, his grandson and 12 close friends and family members. His longtime publicist accompanied him. His old friend Michel Gondry, who has made a film and two series with him, was there, and they were delighted to see each other again.”
Brushing off the conspiracy, he added: “I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance.”
Representatives for Carrey have also confirmed to the LADbible Group that he did attend the ceremony in the French capital.

During his speech on Thursday night (26 February), Carrey said in French: “Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever. Thank you to my sublime companion, Min Ah.
"I love you, Min Ah. And finally, thank you to the funniest man I have ever known: my father, Percy Joseph Carrey who taught me the value of love, generosity, and laughter.”
As Stone leaves fans on edge as they await some kind of ‘proof’ to match the: “Alexis Stone as Jim Carrey in Paris” post, Oscar-winning prosthetics artist David Malinowski says it’s ‘obvious’ it was Carrey at the event.
“He is absolutely not wearing a mask. In my expert, professional opinion that’s 100 percent Jim Carrey and Jim Carrey is not wearing any prosthetics either,” he told LADbible.
“It’s not like he’s wearing them and someone else is saying it’s theirs, it's not Alexis claiming to be him and it's not Jim Carrey in prosthetics looking different.”
The LADbible Group has also contacted representatives for Alexis Stone for comment.
