Jim Carrey appeared at the Cesar Film Awards this week and sparked conversation online after people saw snaps of the comedy legend.
The actor has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, outside of his role as Dr Robotnik aka Dr Eggman, in the Sonic film franchise.
Known for his roles in titles like Bruce Almighty and Yes Man, Carrey is an A-lister in his own right, but due to his low profile, almost every public appearance is an event in itself.
Taking to social media, many noted Carrey's new appearance at the awards show and started to theorise that this may not be the same actor who starred in The Mask.

Numerous X users believe that the actor has been 'replaced', claiming that the 64-year-old is unrecognisable from the last time they saw him.

One wrote: "That’s not Jim. 1000%," as another claimed: "That ain’t him. They replaced him."
Known for his range of facial expressions, Carrey looked noticably different for the first time since retiring from Hollywood in 2022.
Obviously, there is no evidence to suggest that this is the case, apart from the fact that his face looks a bit fuller.
Many celebrities opt to get botox and other forms of cosmetic surgery as they get older and while Carrey has not spoken about the topic, it seems like the possibility has flown over a lot of people's heads.
But when he was presented with the Honorary Cesar Award during a ceremony at L'Olympia in Paris, it wasn't the fact that he delivered a speech in French which made headlines.
Theories into the actor being cloned have run wild online since his appearance at the awards ceremony - though with almost no evidence to support it.
Described as 'one of the most original voices in modern cinema', people were still convinced that it was 'not Jim Carrey' who accepted the award on stage.
The actor even gave fans a rare look into his personal life, thanking his girlfriend, Min Ah, for her support.
You can't stop the internet, at the end of the day.

As for Carrey's decision to step back from acting on the whole, he explained the decision to Access Hollywood back in 2022.
He said that if 'angels bring down some sort of script that's written in gold ink' that would be important, he may consider coming out of retirement.
"I really like my quiet life and I really like putting paint on canvas and I really love my spiritual life and I feel like - and this is something you might never hear another celebrity say as long as time exists - I have enough," he said while promoting Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
Speaking about why he continued to star in the Sonic franchise, Carrey told the Associated Press in December 2024 that he enjoyed playing 'a genius'.
He went on: "And you know, I bought a lot of stuff and I need the money, frankly."
