Julia Fox has hit back at criticism over her controversial Halloween outfit depicting one of the biggest tragedies in US history.

The actress is known for getting people talking about her outfits, such as a 'barely there' look at the Liberatum Cultural Honour Gala earlier this month.

Fox has now done the rounds online for her Halloween costume, with the 35-year-old dressing up as a bloody Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, also known as 'Jackie O', in an outfit which mirrors what the former first lady was wearing when her husband was assassinated.

John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the US, with his murder in Dallas, Texas, being the focus of numerous conspiracy theories.

The official version of the incident details that JFK was shot in the head by Lee Harvey Oswald on 22 November 1963, as he rode through the city in an open-topped car with his wife.

Oswald would be shot dead two days later by a nightclub owner, but JFK's assassination has gone down as one of the most infamous moments in US history.

The historic event is still a touchy subject with people today, so it's not a shock that Fox got people chattering when she showed up to a Halloween party in New York City on Thursday (30 October) for The Cursed Amulet video game, in a bloodied Jackie O costume.

It's very similar to the real outfit worn on that fateful day in 1963, which the former first lady refused to take off before standing next to VP Lyndon B. Johnson during his swearing-in ceremony aboard Air Force One just hours after the assassination.

“No, let them see what they’ve done to Jack [JFK],” she was quoted as saying at the time.

But the Uncut Gems star has now gone viral for replicating the look, with many social media users labelling it as 'inappropriate' and 'tasteless'.

Responding to the criticism on Instagram, Fox said it was not 'a costume', but instead 'a statement'.

"When her husband was assassinated, she refused to change out of her blood-stained clothes, saying, 'I want them to see what they’ve done'. The image of the delicate pink suit splattered with blood is one of the most haunting juxtapositions in modern history. Beauty and horror. Poise and devastation," the actress wrote.

She added that Jackie O's choice to keep the clothes on 'was an act of extraordinary bravery', claiming: "It was performance, protest, and mourning all at once.

"A woman weaponising image and grace to expose brutality. It’s about trauma, power, and how femininity itself is a form of resistance. Long live Jackie O."
